A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… people wanted to name their pets after the Star Wars franchise. And who could blame them? The long-running movie franchise is bigger than ever these days and there are plenty of awesome names from the films to show your love of the Force and all things Star Wars.
Luke
You can’t go wrong with the classics. Luke Skywalker, the plucky kid from Tatooine who saves the Rebellion and defeats the Empire, is an instantly recognizable character. The name “Luke” is also a cute moniker for a cat or dog!
Leia
Bonus points if you get a pair of siblings and name them “Luke” and “Leia”. Princess Leia Organa, eventually a general of the Rebellion and Resistance, is the beating heart of the franchise. Her wit and charm made her an icon, so this name is perfect for a charming pet.
Han
If you’ve got a pet who’s a bit of a scoundrel, the name “Han” is a perfect fit. The slippery Correllian smuggler injects some much-needed darkness and roguish charm into the franchise. Make sure you get a pet named Han a bed or toy you can call the Millennium Falcon.
Chewie
Any large, brown cat or dog can easily be called Chewie or Chewbacca. The towering Wookiee is Han’s best friend in the films and the capable co-pilot of the Falcon. If you’ve got a good candidate for the name “Chewie,” just find a “Han” to be his pal. Trust us, it’ll be adorable.
Vader
It’s almost too easy to name a short-nosed black dog “Vader,” right? They have breathing issues, and they look shiny and black in the right light. Some names don’t need to be much deeper than that—call them Vader and watch your friends laugh.
Poe
“Poe” is a delightful name for a pet cat or dog and it’s also not immediately evident that it’s a Star Wars name. The cocky flyboy from the Sequel Trilogy is dashing, enchanting, and a in a little over his head most of the time. That describes numerous pets out there!
Finn
You could go the easy route and just name a fish “Finn,” but that’s almost too easy, right? Finn would be a great name for any heroic and brave pet, especially one who makes friends quickly and sticks close to their pals.
Rey
Rey, the protagonist of the Sequel Trilogy, is beloved for her fearless attitude, inventive problem-solving skills, and fierce dedication to her friends. The name “Rey” would be a perfect fit for either a smart dog breed or an independent cat!

Anakin
The name “Anakin” can be kind of cute, despite how monstrous the character with that name ends up being. This would be an especially cute name for a pet with unknown parentage, given that in the films Anakin had a mom but no biological dad.

Padme, the Queen of Naboo and an eventual Senator from the planet, is another hero of the Prequel era. She’s fond of aggressive negotiations and burdened with the expectations of an entire planet. She’s also a sweetheart and her relationship with Anakin underpins the adventures that transpire in the Original Trilogy—kind of.
